Service intervals

Every vehicle has different service intervals depending on its age.

The manufacturer's promise of "service every 15,000 kilometres or once a year" means that a car must be inspected at least once a year or after 15,000 km - depending on which is reached first.

This is essential to comply with the warranty conditions (different for each vehicle), otherwise this free service will not be provided.

  • Annual inspection according to §57 is an important point of occasion
  • Warranty periods of the vehicle are exceeded - they are different depending on the manufacturer! Typical is Mercedes, Opel, Volvo and VW 2 years. With Toyota it is usually 3 years.
  • Air conditioning and other comfort features increase the need for service intervals.

General inspection (or Pickerlprüfung, or §57 inspection) and inspection are not one and the same. The Pickerlüberprüfung is required by law and checks the car for its roadworthiness. It usually takes place every 24 months and then at shorter intervals.

The inspection, on the other hand, is for the maintenance and longevity of the vehicle. On the one hand, a regular inspection, e.g. annually or when the car is started, may be a requirement of the manufacturer in order to be able to make use of possible warranty services. On the other hand, it is also necessary due to long operation of the vehicle (or many long journeys) to carry this out.

Principle: The older the vehicle, the more often.

Before every ride

  • a short check - an inspection while walking around the vehicle where lights, wheels and external damage can be noticed.
  • Test the brakes, steering, windscreen wipers and seat belts.
  • Load check - is everything fixed, lid closed?
  • Winter accessories everything there? Chains, scratches and de-icer for the door?

Regularly:

  • Tyres
  • Engine oil
  • Coolant
  • Brake fluid
  • Power steering
  • Battery
  • V-belt
  • Hoses and seals
  • Scratches and rust spots
  • First aid kit

According to the intervals of the service booklet:

  • Otherwise, the warranty fulfillment of the manufacturer is not ensured. Keyword for this is called checkbook maintenance.
  • Partly this maintenance is also free.
  • And often also really necessary, so that the service booklet for the resale was filled out completely. Please also note with all services that these are registered!
